Certainly, there are many file types in today's computing world. We may be grossly oversimplifying if we try to think of them as "merely" sequential or not, or human-readable, or not.
Do some research on the Internet and see what information you can find about the explosion of file types. Some commentators suggest that much of the details about file types will disappear from the normal users' point of view, as icons and apps replace our way of thinking about how we name and use the pieces of our systems. Does this make sense? If so, Why? What is the rationale?
After exploring the different file types, discuss what surprised you the most about files and file types? From a file type perspective, what do you think the future might hold?
