This course requires you to work on developing a website that incorporates the concepts and techniques of web design that you learn in this course. You will complete the project through the assignment of each module. In this assignment you will create a simple web page as the main page of your website.
Additionally, this project requires you to host your website on Amazon Simple Storage Services (S3).
In this activity, you will create a simple HTML webpage named index.html, the default file name for the main page of most web servers. After creating and saving this web page, upload it to your Amazon web host and submit your file(s) to the course page.
Create your HTML file using any text editor. You can choose any available editor to create your HTML document. Some of the popular, free editors are provided in "Additional Resources" section above. Chapter 1 of HTML, XHTML, and CSS for the Absolute Beginner by Jerry Lee Ford provides steps to create a simple webpage. You may follow the links in the Recommended Readings section above for instructions on creating webpages using text editors.
The content of the web page should include: 1. your name and 2. a welcome message for the visitors of your page specifying the purpose of this website (showcase your professional work and allow potential employers to contact you).
Save the file as index.html to your computer. Be sure to save frequently while working on the file. You may open and review the created html file locally by double-clicking the saved file before uploading it.
In this assignment you will continue the work toward your final project - a professional portfolio website that impresses your potential employers. To make your web page more interesting and to better showcase yourself you need to use multimedia files. You will apply what you learned during this module to insert web links, images, and videos to your index.html. In this milestone you are required to submit your index.html file, in addition to the Amazon web link, to the Blackboard.
In this activity, you will make your web page more attractive by inserting multimedia files. Modify your index.html document and include: 1. a photo of you (real or fictitious), and 2. An embedded YouTube video clip recorded by you, where you include a short bio of yourself (e.g., introducing yourself, your family, or your dog). Using new HTML5 elements is optional.
Additionally, you need to prepare two web links linking to the two web pages - resume.html and contact.html , which will be part of your website and will also be stored in your Amazon S3 site. While the two files do not need to exist at this stage, the links to the two files need to be correctly specified.
After modifying and uploading your index.html, please review it to make sure the page works properly. When you are ready to submit your work, click "Write Submission" button, and copy and paste your page URL to the text area, together with the summary of changes. Further, you need to click Browse My Computer button and locate your index.html file. Then click Submit button and you are done.
In this assignment you will continue to work on your final project- a professional portfolio website to impress potential employers. You will need to write a resume to market yourself, as well as provide a mechanism by which potential employers may contact you. You will create two HTML documents, resume.html and contact.html, and upload them to Amazon Web Services to be linked by index.html. To complete Milestone 3, in addition to uploading your webpages, you are also required to submit your HTML files (index.html, resume.html, and contact.html) to the Blackboard, together with the external CSS file you created in Module 4.
In this activity you need to prepare your personal resume and create a resume.html document which summarizes your professional goals, experiences, accomplishments, professional certifications, and future career plans.
Additionally, you are required to create a contact.html page allowing your site visitors to contact you. Develop a form in the HTML document containing the following input entries:
JavaScript for validating user-generated form content is also required. When visitors hit the "submit" button, your JavaScript codes should make sure:
After modifying and uploading your HTML files, please review your page to make sure it works properly. Remember to click the two links in index.html to be sure they link to correct files. Also try the contact form to see if JavaScript validates your inputs.
In this final Milestone you will finish your Web Design Project. This will be the final product of your professional portfolio website, which should be ready for review by your future employer.
Please review the Web Design Project description to ensure that your website meets all the project requirements, including a responsive Web page. To complete Milestone 4, all the files, including the HTML and CSS files you created for this project, are required to submitted to the Blackboard.
