The arrival of COVID-19 pandemic was unexpected. It hit the country hard. The market crashed and many businesses had to temporarily close. There's uncertainty on when there will be a vaccine for the virus thus there is limited economic activity. We are not sure whether businesses are going to be able to preserve themselves but with few or no income then they will surely have to permanently close and many will be left unemployed.
Our main concern are people being unemployed. With unemployment, people will not be able to sustain themselves. Relying on the government and donations is not sustainable and resources will be at some point be depleted. A long term plan is needed and we see these businesses as our best bet to solve the problem. We need to put them back on their feet for them to find ways on how to turn the tables around on these trying times, to make people as employed as possible and to slowly restart the economy.
2021 Update and moving forward... It's been a year. There is still no permanent cure for COVID and many variants of it have already appeared. The good news is that vaccines are continuously developed and the vaccination rate among the population is increasing. In effect, the rate of death and infection decreased. Many of the businesses were able to adjust the way on how they do their business and the economy slightly improved. The future is not yet clear but one thing for sure is that people are learning how to live with COVID. With that said, we continue to fund and support businesses and most especially those who are still finding ways and struggling to adjust to this new normal.
